The 10th edition of the Iranian Film Festival held in Prague and Brno called ÍRÁN:CI (IRAN:IANS) brings some of the best Iranian movies of 2021 to the festival's audience. This year focuses on presenting the best Iranian cinematography has to offer in a nutshell and will be held between 13th and 15th of January in cinema Světozor in Prague and between 17th and 19th of January in cinema Art in Brno.
This year the festival will offer its audience three internationally acknowledged films made both by some of the most famous Iranian film directors and Iranian cinematography newbies.
“A Hero”, a film directed by Oscar winning director Asghar Farhadi (for “Separation” in 2011 and for “The Salesman” in 2016), is a winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes and praised by audience and critics alike. The film portrays the heartbreaking struggle of Rahim who is on his two-day leave from prison and tries to convince his creditor to drop the charges against him in hope of returning back to his normal life, his son and his girlfriend.
“Ballad of a White Cow”, a film directed by Behtash Sanaeeha and Maryam Moghaddam, depicts a silent battle of a young woman called Mina against the authorities. Mina's husband was condemned and executed for a crime he didn’t commit. Although the authorities express their regret for the mistake and financial compensation is offered to Mina, she refuses to give up and demands a public apology. At that moment, a mysterious stranger named Reza who wants to repay a debt he owed to Mina's husband, comes to the scene.
“Hit the Road”, a film directed by Panah Panahi, son of the well-known Iranian New Wave film movement director Jafar Panahi, is a road movie as well as a story of love, pain, hopes and fears of one four-member family. A road trip through a scenic mountainous Iranian landscape far from the city and civilization reveals the family's joys and sorrows and the unique character of each of its members.
